MODULE 1:
PLANTATION
The plantation of trees is an essential activity that promotes environmental sustainability and helps mitigate the effects of climate change. It involves the process of planting trees or other plants for commercial, ornamental, or environmental purposes. In the Social Connect and Responsibility subject of the 3rd semester Engineering course conducted by the CSE department of Proudha Devaraya Institute of Technology, the first module focuses on the plantation. Advika, Sanjana.S and Pooja have taken the initiative to plant Gardenia as part of this program.
Advika, Sanjana and Pooja selected an appropriate location for the Gardenia plantation, considering factors such as soil type, drainage, sunlight, and water availability. They prepared the soil by adding organic matter and fertilizers to improve its fertility and nutrient content.
The planting process involved digging holes of appropriate size and depth, placing the Gardenia plant carefully in the holes, and filling the gaps with soil. They ensured that the plants were planted at a sufficient distance from each other to allow for proper growth and development.
Plant Care and Maintenance:
After planting the Gardenia plant, Advika, Sanjana and Pooja took care to water them adequately, especially during the initial stages of growth. They also applied fertilizers regularly to provide essential nutrients to the plants. They monitored the plants for any signs of pests or diseases and took appropriate measures to control them.
As the plants grew, they pruned them to remove dead or diseased branches and to promote better growth and flowering.
Benefits of Gardenia Plantation:
The plantation of plants by Advika, Sanjana and Pooja has several benefits. Most of us know gardenias as the big, white flowers that grow in our gardens or the source of a strong, floral smell that is used to make things like lotions and candles.
Today the ethanol extract of gardenia fruit and flowers is still utilized in many ways in herbal medicine and aromatheraphy. There are more than 250 different types of gardenia plants, one of which is called Gardenia jasminoides Ellis, the type primarily used to make essential oil.
Conclusion:
The plantation of Gardenia plant by Advika, Sanjana and Pooja is a significant initiative towards promoting environmental sustainability. It is an excellent example of how individuals can contribute to creating a better future for themselves and their communities. Through this module, we hope to inspire more students to take up similar initiatives and make a positive impact on the world.
